2013/2014 Children's Formation Program
Grades 1-8
The Catechism of the Catholic Church calls the home "the first school of Christian life" (ccc1657) - meaning that by God's design, families are the first and primary place children learn about God. As children watch their parents living out the Christian life, they grow in the Faith.
Summer Program
Registration Deadline is May 1, 2013
Session A -- June 10 through June 21
Session B -- July 8 through July 19
With the number of children and families that have difficulty attending on Sunday or Monday evenings, we hope the summer option will answer their needs. The program will provide a blend of prayer, instructional catechesis, sacramental celebrations, and community-building for children and parents. The program consists of 40 hours (Monday - Friday 8:30-12:30) for two weeks of class instruction that covers the learning objectives that are standard for our Archdiocese.
Because so much material is covered each day, students who attend the summer program MAY NOT miss class. In the case of illness or emergency, arrangements for course completion can be made. Please do not schedule any dentist or medical appointments during class time.
Sunday-Monday School Year Program
Registration Deadline is June 1, 2013
Session C -- Sundays - 4:30 PM to 5:45 PM
Session D -- Mondays - 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM
This Sunday-Monday evening program parallels close to the academic calendar beginning in September and ending at the end of April. This program provides a rich classroom experience throughout the year.
Home Study Program
Registration Deadline is June 1, 2013
Session H: Home Study
The Home Study program is for parents and children who want to work together as a family with the teaching and learning of the material that would be covered in the summer or in the school year program. Parents and children will gather about every 6-8 weeks at 10:15 AM (between the Sunday Masses). Students will meet in grade levels with facilitators and parents will meet together to obtain the lesson plans for the next 6-8 weeks.
In all the programs - Summer, School Year, Home Study - parent participation and involvement is crucial. We want to strongly encourage families to make a commitment to attend on-going faith formation events throughout the year at St. Susanna. We will be planning Advent and Lenten family opportunities. We will be offering Bible Studies, Christ Renews His Parish Retreats, various classes, and other programs and activities for both adults and children to engage in. If your child is making his/her First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, you will already be involved in parent activities.
All parents are asked to help with some facet of their child's religious education program - as a teacher or substitute teacher, classroom aides, craft preparers, office helper or facilitators, etc. We depend on our volunteers (both teens and adults) to make the Children's Program successful.
