Youth Ministry New Volunteer Information

 This information is intended to advise those interested in volunteering in the Faith Alive, LIFE, and Confirmation programs at St. Susanna Parish.  Please know that we are grateful for your interest in our youth.  We ask that you carefully read the following information as well as the handbook(s) available about the program in which you are interested. 

THEN:

 1.     Schedule a meeting with Jenny Williamson and/or Jodi Mott to talk about your level of interest and commitment and whether we have openings for additional volunteers in the Youth Ministry program in which you are interested; How regularly will you be able to attend meetings?  Why are you interested in this ministry?  If you are a parent of a participating student, how does your child feel about having you present at meetings?  (At times, it is not optimum for the student to have a parent present in the student’s ministry environment)

2.     Attend a Decree on Child Protection seminar available regularly at St. Susanna and neighboring parishes, and be fingerprinted in accord with the Decree on Child Protection.

3.     Schedule with Jenny or Jodi a time to attend a youth group meeting.  This way, we can be prepared ahead of time to let the students know that we have a guest that is interested in volunteering his or her time with us.

4.     Know that, especially if you are entering the program mid-year, we may not yet have a leadership role for you.  Our adults are participants with our youth in small faith-sharing groups and there is a level of trust that is built up beginning with the first meeting which cannot be forced quickly.  Please do not be offended if we ask for background support at first.
